Description
AMSFA’s Let’s Talk series include different topics related to effective pedagogical practices in disadvantaged area schools, centered on the values of equality, equity and social justice. This series of professional development offer participants an opportunity to reflect, discuss, and share important practices relevant to teaching in a Montreal disadvantaged school.
Let’s Talk about… evaluation
Among the many challenges we have faced since last spring is the issue of evaluation. Research confirms that one of the best ways to ensure educational success in disadvantaged area schools is to place an emphasis on learning. When we do so we remember that learning is the goal. One way of doing so is to understand, affirm and exercise our professional judgement. Now, more than ever, we must consider the important role we play as teachers.
Part 1: Prioritizing Learning over Evaluation - May 6th
Part 2: Professional Judgement - May 19th
Goals
- Know, understand and reflect on equitable classroom practices related to the evaluation of learning
- Support participants in recognizing and understanding the equity issues that arise with evaluation
- Share equitable classroom practices
