Description
The Preschool Cycle Program is intended to provide everyone with equal opportunities to develop in different areas so that they are able to learn and be successful throughout their lives. It gives children a chance to learn, understand and become familiar with the school environment, and to believe in their own abilities. Children arrive at school with experiences that vary according to their personal characteristics, family and sociocultural background. It is therefore important to take each child into account and build on the strengths encountered in each area of development.
This session will allow particpants to reflect on how our bias can influence pedagogical practices—including how perceptions may affect relationships
with families, and to explore strategies to foster meaningful family engagement that supports the success of all children. We will also discuss what it means to be disadvantaged and what factors can contribute to a successful school transition in order to ensure that EVERYONE truly feels welcomed and has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Specific and Measurable Goals
In this session we will:
- reflect on the Preschool Cycle Program in relation to teaching in a disadvantaged community
- reflect on current school and classroom practices related to family engagement and transition
- share ideas and practices which value families as essential partners in preschool
